Tierra del Fuego is situated in the south of Patagonia and is exclusively constituted of islands. The biggest one, several hundred kilometres long, is also the most visited one, because easily reachable and famous for its well-known town Ushuaïa. It also explains why it possesses the highest density in population.

The other islands as for example Navarino, are less known, but have more authenticity, because tourism is still very limited. The distances, difficulties and costs to get there make them preserved from man’s influence.

When travelling across Tierra del Fuego, you easily understand the notion of
isolation in daily life. Towns or villages, as well as gas stations are rare. Therefore each time you cross a locality, it gives you the opportunity to get a meal or do some shopping before going further on the road.

These islands are also incredible, because apart from the most deserted steppes, huge forests, looking like the ones in Laponia with lichen covered trees, accompany the snowy mountains. There are numerous rivers and lakes in Tierra del Fuego and Fishers know well, that in Tierra del Fuego you catch the best trout in the world.

The climate is very similar to Patagonia, with temperatures getting slightly cooler, the nearest you get to the Antarctic. The observation of the sun radiation is more perceptible than in Patagonia. As soon as the sun shines, temperatures get pleasantly warm. Something very special is the surrealistic depth of the sky. Sometimes you get the impression that the sky is a photomontage where clouds have been added afterwards.
